A product of a highly musical family and a southern gospel-influenced church, Ruut was destined to become a songwriter. At age seven, an old upright piano in their Helsinki apartment enraptured her and became the inspiration to countless songs.

In her early teens Tori Amos' "Under the Pink" album rang truest to this church-bred child of missionaries and musicians, and Ruut was also very influenced by classical, jazz, Broadway and 70's singer/songwriters. Into her 20's, Ruut searched relentlessly for a sound completely her own, toiling both along and with several renown producers and writers in Nashville, New York and Los Angeles. Through a string of diverse projects, Ruut strengthened what was most unique about her - honest songwriting and an emotionally captivating performance that is sure to engage even the most sophisticated ears.

In 2008, EMI released her full-length debut in Finland and in 2009, JVC released it in Japan. Two years in a row her songs were validated in New York's Songwriters' Circle competition by reaching the top rounds. Ruut has appeared at The Hotel Cafe (LA) and The Bitter End (NY), and has toured widely across the US, appearing in other notable venues including: The Rams Head (Annapolis, MD), Night Cat (Easton, MD), World Cafe Live (Philadelphia, PA), The Living Room (NYC), Tosco Music Party (Charlotte, NC), The Whitaker Center (Harrisburg, PA), The Roxy, Viper Room, The Mint, Genghis Cohen (LA), Soho (Santa Barbara, CA) and Le Stats (San Diego, CA), among various others. Ruut has also opened concerts for notable acts, such as: Brett Dennen, Danielia Cotton, Derek Trucks Band, Delbert McClinton, Trevor Hall and Amber Rubarth.

Recently returning to the simplicity and originality of her unique "piano-girl" approach, Ruut wrote and recorded an album of deeply insightful songs, called "The Steinway Sessions" with the help of Hollywood's own expert and highly requested engineer, Frank Wolfe. This album is to be released later in 2010.
